SIVAN SCHLECTER

Founder, Principal, Strategy Lead (She/Her)

Sivan’s passion for helping people and planet has shaped her work for equity and the environment for over 25 years. Focused at her sweet spot, water and gender, she’s currently co-piloting a gender equity, data and technology emergency response to the water workforce crisis as a Board member of WaterRising Institute while working with clients in the digital water space.

Sivan founded Out of the Blue in 2005 to help launch LGBTQ+ television brands MTV Networks’ Logo and Showtime’s The L Word, following her senior marketing roles for The Advocate and Out. As the architect of Showtime’s The L Word series rollout to LGBTQ+ America, she is credited for proving the “L” in LGBTQ+ market share. Her blueprint was adopted by MTV Networks (Viacom) for the rollout of Logo, the first 24/7, advertising-supported TV channel for LGBTQ+ Americans. It also earned Showtime Networks (CBS) the industry’s top marketing award for The L Word series launch to women.

Returning to her academic roots in 2008, she co-founded the nonprofit Picture Earth to launch a call for sustainable living with the American public in partnership with a UNEP Goodwill Ambassador and his NGO, GoodPlanet.

More recently, Sivan co-designed and relaunched WaterRising Institute’s WaterWoman Project, a workforce development program, working with Andrew Marconi of Five59 Labs. Prior, she held a public affairs role for NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), America’s largest urban water and resource recovery utility serving nearly 9 million people. There, she gained a real-world perspective on city government, intergovernmental relations, public private partnerships (PPPs), water quality, water security, utility O&M, and STEM careers. With a silver tsunami threatening, she worked to inspire our future workforce by educating and recruiting STEM students for DEP and the largest U.S. city university system (CUNY).

To channel her concern for our water resources, Sivan helped The Nature Conservancy’s former Chief Marketing Officer launch GRC Advising, serving joint clients Sustainable Brands, American Farmland Trust, Purify Fuel, and others. She also advised on the winning presidential campaign for International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)’s second woman leader in 72 years, working with Juan Adrian Garcia Cid.
